History

Office Exterior-1Castle Centerstone Real Estate and Development, LLCwas formed in 1996 to create office and retail space in downtown Castle Rock.  The commercial real estate development goal was to create a special place for residents and visitors that preserves the heritage of Castle Rock while integrating contemporary retail trends into the overall design.

It is the natural outgrowth of local resident, Brad Brown, who possesses more than 30 years of experience in commercial real estate. Brad’s background experience with one of the largest companies in the Colorado Front Range, which specialized in the renovation and leasing of historically significant properties aligned with the vision for downtown Castle Rock. Many of the renovations located in Denver’s Lower Downtown (LoDo), were pioneered under Brad’s leadership.

The inaugural development for Castle Centerstone came with the renovation of the Castle Café Restaurant and Keystone Apartments building. As one of Castle Rock’s most historic and highly recognized buildings, Brad along with his restaurant partner, Tom Walls, set the standard for renovations in the downtown area. The design aesthetic integrated modern building techniques yet maintained the downtown character and personality. It was a pivotal project as it established Castle Centerstone as the premier real estate development company in Castle Rock. The Next Door Bar, which is adjacent to the Castle Café, opened just a few years later in March 2003.

In 1998, Castle Centerstone developed and opened a two-story office and retail complex on the Southeast corner of 4th and Perry St., known as Centerstone, the first upscale shopping in downtown Castle Rock in more than a decade. Centerstone provided residents and visitors a collection of diverse retail opportunities on the street level and offices on the upper level. This was a benchmark project that furthered the organization toward their goal of providing mixed use to the Castle Rock community.

As part of the dedication and mutual vision Castle Centerstone shared with Castle Rock, Brad facilitated the Town in a trade of land parcels with the railroad for their new Fire Station, located adjacent to the Centerstone building. After the new Fire Station was built and occupied in 1999, Castle Centerstone redeveloped the former fire station into the Shops on Third, offering additional upscale shopping and alternative health services.

Always striving to maintain the heritage and history of Castle Rock, in 2001 Castle Centerstone bought the City Hotel, Castle Rock’s first hotel. Preserving historic buildings for future use, Castle Centerstone currently operates City Hotel, which it plans to renovate into office space to meet the demand for smaller professional firms at the appropriate time.

In the midst of these developments, Brad was also instrumental in recently assembling a property and organizing the affairs needed for Douglas County to acquire and convert it into the new County Library. Castle Centerstone’s municipal pride for the downtown community is reflected in providing this level of professional contribution.

In 2004, Castle Centerstone’s most significant contribution to date was started, The Courtyard at Castle Rock. The vision for the Courtyard was to create a place and space for all the residents of Castle Rock. The place would include gathering areas and really be a reflection of the lifestyle one could attain in downtown Castle Rock. The Courtyard today is a destination spot for professionals, shoppers, families and anyone that proudly calls Castle Rock home. From the elaborate operating fountain to the patio seating at Siena no detail was overlooked in providing an outdoor sanctuary for downtown. Today the mission has been realized in the use of the Courtyard area. It continues to add value and enhance the lifestyle of downtown Castle Rock.

A mission of this caliber cannot rely on an ambiguous assembly of developments therefore; Castle Centerstone has assumed a leadership role in planning and developing complementary projects. One by one, year by year, Castle Centerstone continues to develop the office, retail, residential, and parking components that will work together in building a re-energized and prosperous “town square.” This ensures that Castle Rock will continue to mature as an important junction between the growing suburbs of Denver and Colorado Springs as well as reflect the culture of the Castle Rock community.
